Chinese Tie

The Chinese tie goes back a long way. It is twisted and tied with a single piece of string. Simple or complicated, ties are varied in form and
exquisite beyond compare. Since ancient times, Chinese tie have been a folk handicraft worn or hung as an ornament symbolizing good luck and
happiness. They are imbued with the cultural quintessence unique to the Chinese nation. In the prehistoric age, string or rope was respectfully
regarded as the image of the dragon, worshipped as a divine being by the Chinese. 结(jie) is a Chinese character full of sentiments. It mean
s strength and harmony. In the phrases of 结合(integration), 结交(association), 结发夫妻(husband and wife by the first marriage), and 永结同
心(perpetual alliance), the character 结conveys an aesthetic perception of reunion, intimacy, and tender warmth. The colorful Chinese ties are
named after their shapes and the meaning they convey, such as the panchang tie, the sunken-panel tie, and the double-coin tie, all showing the
people’s good intention to seek the true, the good, and the beautiful.
