Great Wall

The Great Wall, about more than 6,300 kilometers, is a symbol of Chinese civilization, is one of the mot famous, grand and splendid ancient
construction wonders in the world.

The majestic Great Wall of China is the greatest ancient military fortification in the world and has been listed in the World Heritage by UNESCO
since 1987. Starting from Shanhaiguan Pass in Liaoning Province to Jiayuguan Pass in Gansu Province, Great Wall winds through the mountain
and desert areas of northern China from east to west.

For many centuries, the Great Wall, as a military gigantic defensive project, kept out the invading troops of the northern nomadic tribes. Having
undergone the forces of nature for thousands of years, the Great Wall witnessed the rise and fall of many dynasties and changes on the earth, yet
it is still standing proudly in the eastern part of the world. Now, the Great Wall has become a famous historical scenic spot for tourists, and it plays
a role in bridging the friendship between the Chinese people and peoples in different parts of the world.

Great Wall Picture
Juyongguan Pass was one of the most famous passes of the Great Wall. It was built in a gap
between two mountain peaks with only one road leading to Beijing. This determined its military
significance in ancient times through many dynasties, and it has been consistently valuable to
military strategists through the ages.

In the middle of Juyongguan Pass lies a high platform called “Cloud Terrace”, which is made of
white marble. In the Yuan Dynasty, three stone towers were built on the platform. At the end of Yuan
Dynasty, they were burnt down. Inside the arched passage of “Cloud Terrace”, there are carved in
relief Buddhist images on the wall.

Badaling Great Wall
Located in Yanqing County, the magnificent Badaling Great Wall is about 75 kilometers northwest of Beijing, and it is the best preserved wall
Great Wall Photoconstruction from the Ming Dynasty.

This section with an average altitude of over 1,000 meters is the outpost of the Juyongguan Pass. The
wall is wide enough for five horses to gallop abreast and ten people to advance shoulder to shoulder.
The mountain slope is very steep and the roads are tortuous. These features made it a military
stronghold. Badaling Great Wall is like a strong dragon winding its way along the mountain ranges.

Badaling Great Wall was the earliest part of the great wall opened to tourists. At present, Badaling Great
Wall stands still there recording the hardship and bitterness that Chinese people have endured in the
past 2000 years. It is a priceless cultural heritage of humanity.

Great WallMutianyu Great Wall
Located in Huairou County about 45 miles northeast of Beijing, Mutianyu Great Wall enjoys a long history and is
part of the glorious culture of China.

The construction of this section began in the early Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Unlike the Badaling, this section
has crenellated battlements on both sides of the wall, preventing enemies’ attacks from either side. It proves the
strategic importance of the location of this section in wartime. What is more rarely seen on the southeast side is a
general gateway platform guarded by three watch towers together.

Unlike other sections, Mutianyu has a beautiful landscape all the year around. In spring, the mountain sides are
decorated with peach and plum blossoms; in summer, people feel cool here with the luxuriant green trees and
grass; in autumn, the golden, red and crimson autumn colors can be seen everywhere on the tree leaves and fruits;
and in winter, snow presents another attractive scene over the Great Wall.

Wangjinglou Tower in the east and ends at Longyukou in the west and stretches about 10

made of brick and stone. There are more than 100 enemy towers along the whole wall, built stably

An 800-meter long cable was built to entertain the tourists. Also a 3-kilometer section of the wall
was rebuilt and is bathed after dark in colored light, making a splendid “Night Great Wall”.

Simatai Great Wall

magnificent watch towers.

The unique feature of this section is dangerous and precipitous. Many parts of the Great Wall here were built on
sheer cliffs or on steep mountain slopes. It rises and falls sharply but has every essential structure-walls, watch
towers and parapets.

It is the only part of the Great Walls that still has the original appearance of the Ming Dynasty. Therefore, it is a
good choice for the adventurists to see the original structure.

The eastern part of the Great Wall has 15 watchtowers and was constructed on the steep ridge of the mountain.
It looks like a winding dragon jumping out of the lake.

Great Wall Photos to become popular with hikers.

It is almost 11 kilometers long and joins with Mutianyu Great Wall in the east, and Juyongguan Pass and
Badaling in the west. Huanghuacheng provides a challenge as it has no stone steps or no single smooth path
like the ones found at Badaling and other sections of the Great Wall.

The entire section of wall comprises of six forts, six passes, twelve beacon-towers, and thirty-two towers. Among
them, Yaoziyu Fort is the best preserved. Covering an area of 7,000 square metes, it was built in 1592. There is a
