Shennong Stream

Shennong Stream

Shennong StreamShennong Stream, a tributary of the Yangtze River, rises in the southern part of Shennongjia Natural Reserve. It joins
the Yangtze at Xirangkou in Hubei's Badong County. It runs out of the deep valley through the forest at a height of
3000m above sea level, and rushes southward between rocky cliffs. It covers 60 km and totally 17 rivers and streams
flow into it. One of the most important ports of call for Yangtze Three Gorges tour.

Originally the Shennong Stream watercourse consisted of a wild river traversing a tortuous alignment flanked by
almost vertical limestone cliffs; however, since the beginning of the construction of the Three Gorges Dam
downstream on the Yangtze, the water level has risen approximately 155 meters at the mouth of Shen Nong Stream.

With crystal clear water, this steam flows swiftly from north to south through deep gorges. Its natural beauty and local
color have attracted the interest of overseas tourists. Drifting down stream with the river is the most wonderful travel
style. Sailing out from up stream, the skillful boatman will master the boat along the flow way and the tourists can
enjoy the landscape on both sides of the riverbank and hills.

A sampan tour will allow you to experience a speedy adventure along this newly opened unspoiled river. The section of the river earmarked for this
game is twenty kilometers long and passes along the Mianzhuxia, Yingwuxia and Longchangxia. An arrow-like sampan glides past the four-
kilometer-long Mianzhu Gorge and then enters the main stream of the Shennong. The average flow of the stream is 20 cubic meter per second a
year. It is an ideal place for drifting tour with a very good experience of adventures without any danger.

Shennong StreamDuring the rafting tour, you might see large and small karst caves, home of many swallows, a world of high cliffs,
deep gorges, flying waterfalls, three-colored springs, the ancient trestle path the suspended coffin in the cliff, the
groups of ancient tombs and marvelous karst formations. Startled swallows swoop overhead, fish swim about in the
depths of the water and monkeys play on shore. The natural landscape is fascinating for overseas tourists
sightseeing on simple, peapod-like flat boats.
