Nyingchi, "throne of the sun" in Tibetan, is located in southeast Tibet, where the Himalaya Mountains and
Nyainqentanglha Mountains extend from west to east.

NYingchi boasts much in its charming natural scenery. In this favorable region, it is possible to see
various landscapes, such as year-round snow capped mountains, legendary holy lakes and rivers,
unfathomable canyons and valleys as well as the expansive green grasslands. In addition, the region is
also the home to many wild animals, such as the lesser pandas, snub-nosed monkeys, antelopes,
bears, tigers and so on.

NYingchi is abundant in forest and waterpower resources, etc.
According to the Ministry of Forestry’s air survey, the forest coverage of NYingchi is 46.1 percent. NYingchi’s forest has a large variety of trees
and is expansive.
NYingchi’s waterpower resources account for 70 percent of Tibet’s total, one of the rich-waterpower regions in China.

NYingChiTo improve the protection of the rare plateau forest landscapes and unique natural scenery, and to save,
protect and develop the valuable and rare wild life resources, since 1982, following elaborate
investigations and planning, five nature reserves have been set up in NYingchi by the government of the
Tibetan Administrative Region. The total area is 201,200 hectares.

There are also some important towns in the region that are worth of visiting. In NYingchi, there are
inhabited 10 nationalities, the traditional customs and religious beliefs that the minorities have retained
also provide an attraction for this region.

Due to the relatively low altitude and mild and moist climate here, NYingchi is often chosen as the first destination to acclimatize oneself for
challengers to Tibet. It is just like a “Green Pearl” resting in the southeast of the Tibet Plateau.
